If the whole frosty vibe is your thing, you’re probably singing “Let it Snow” right now. ❄️
Seattle may very well get its first snowfall of the season today with ~70% of Seattle likely to see some of the white, flaky stuff falling from the sky. But with temperatures forecasted above freezing for Wednesday, it’s unlikely any snow will stick for very long if it does arrive.
At least this gives us a good opportunity to talk about what info you’ll need if we do see a repeat of big winterstorms from 2021 soon. Warm up the hot cocoa and let’s get to it.
Checking road conditions 🚗
For folks in town, the Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) has a real-time map that show which roads and sidewalks have been plowed, when they were last treated, and which roads are currently out of commission.
And for those traveling in and out of Seattle, the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) can help with its own real-time map of road conditions throughout the region.
Public transportation 🚌
If you’re not comfortable driving but still need to get somewhere, check the following public transit options in your neighborhood. Service may change frequently depending on conditions, so look for the latest updates before you head out the door.
Pro tip: The Transit app uses data from transit agencies to provide info on route status, current bus location, and alternate travel options.
Power outages ⚡️
This is what none of us wants to have happen during a snowstorm — make sure you’re prepared for the worst and stock up on necessities.
School closures 📚
If you’ve got kiddos that are dying to know if their inside-out pajamas worked, Seattle Public Schools has a webpage dedicated to explaining its snow safety measures and announcing closures.

Editor’s pick: Weeee — it’s off to Tennessee for me. I’m heading back down south first thing tomorrow morning to go visit family and celebrate my little bro’s birthday, so I am feeling a little extra peppy at the moment. I’m sure that will dissipate a bit once my alarm wakes me up at 5 a.m. (nope, I’m not a morning person), but I’m happy Gabe’s airport guide can help me find some good coffee later.
Don’t miss me too much — I’ll be back at the keyboard on Monday.
