Seattle Parks and Recreation is shortening its opening hours at both Golden Gardens + Alki Beach this summer to 4 a.m.-10 p.m., starting Fri., May 27 through Sun., Sept. 4. And we have lift-off. Teams from Newport High School in Bellevue finished first + second in the American Rocketry Challenge, which took place in Virginia this past weekend. Ken’s Market founderKenneth Giles died earlier this month at the age of 91. Growing up in Greenwood, Ken had strong North Seattle roots and bought his first store at 73rd St. + Greenwood Ave. in 1955.
