Heated patios to try out this fall in Seattle

Don Luchos Patio

Know anyone who doesn’t like a good patio + a drink, at least sometimes? No, of course you don’t — patios are lovely.

In which case, we’ve got some pretty good news to share with all of you. Ballard Councilmember Dan Strauss recently introduced legislation to make streateriesthose little outdoor seating areas restaurants + shops built out onto the roads — a permanent thing.

Making this law

The guidelines regulating how patios operate (like structural standards, fees, etc.) were being tested out in Ballard for a couple of years to make sure everything would work smoothly once expanded to the rest of the city.

Now, the legislation will just need to be approved by a City Council vote — the pilot program originally got an 8-0 approval, so things are looking peachy.

As things start to get colder, here are some covered and heated patios you’ll want to make a note of. Who knows, some of them could be sticking around.

Enjoy them now

🍽 Cantinetta | 10038 Main St. | Bellevue
You may have trouble finding motivation to stand up from the patio’s cozy, fur-covered chairs after a glass of wine or two.

🍽 Maximilien | 81A Pike St. | Pike Place Market
You don’t need to travel to the arctic to try out your own igloo — reserve one of the cozy bubbles at this Pike Place French spot.

🍽 Terra Plata | 1501 Melrose Ave. | Pike/Pine
Capitol Hill’s popular restaurant has a covered patio on a rooftop + coastal wild salmon with grilled corn. Need we say more? It’s corn.

Climate Pledge Arena showcases new bites

Sure, yeah, yeah, we go to Climate Pledge Arena for the Seattle Kraken games and concerts, but... the venue’s extensive list of concession stands certainly has a hold on us.

Ahead of the Kraken’s first home game on Sat., Oct. 15, the staff announced all of the new offerings that are now available for hungry fans.

Here’s what’s making our mouths water.

Molly D’s Burgers | Section 9 | This “just walk out” burger shop created by the arena’s executive chef Molly de Mers joins Shaq’s Big Chicken as the only fast-casual kitchens to use Amazon’s fancy retail technology.

The Impossible Test Kitchen | Section 108 | This is the only place in the world where you can order the plant-based food company’s more experimental offerings like the Chili Cheesedog or Mac & Jack bratwurst — hot + ready to go.

Uptown Grille | Section 4 | This kitchen isn’t new to the arena, but the kim-cheese loaded fries and Italian beef sandwich definitely are. Trust us, we’d remember.
THE WRAP
Today’s issue was written by Alina.

Editor’s pick: So I got a chance to try out these new Climate Pledge Arena bites and lemme just say... the peanut butter + jelly corndog at Molly D’s is a dark horse for adventurous eaters like me. The peanut butter batter was so, so crispy and that jam dipping sauce was tasty even with just the hotdog.

Also, the Kraken’s new mascot Buoy tried to give me his tooth in the middle of all of this, so I think this means we’re in love. My partner will be disappointed, but I think he’ll understand.
