Know anyone who doesn’t like a good patio + a drink at least sometimes. No, of course you don’t — patios are lovely.
In which case, we’ve got some pretty good news to share with all of you. Ballard Councilmember Dan Strauss recently introduced legislation to make streeteries — those little outdoor seating areas restaurants + shops built out onto the roads — a permanent thing.
The guidelines regulating how patios operate (like structural standards, fees, etc.) were being tested out in Ballard for a couple of years to make sure everything would work smoothly once expanded to the rest of the city.
Now, the legislation will just need to be approved by a City Council vote — the pilot program originally got an 8-0 approval, so things are looking peachy.
As things start to get colder, here are some covered and heated patios you’ll want to make a note of now that it looks like some of them will be sticking around.
