King County Executive Dow Constantine has revealed some more information about his plan to redevelop seven downtown Seattle blocks currently occupied by aged facilities. Potential plans include a Sound Transit Light Rail Station connecting to the Ballard extension and thousands of residential units. (Puget Sound Business Journal)
Maritime
The Port of Seattle has become the first US port to require all visiting cruise ships to use shore power while docked. According to the port, using shore power can cut diesel emissions at berth by ~80%. During the 2023 season, cruise ships that used shore power were able to avoid emitting 2,700 metric tons of greenhouse emissions.
Civic
A Seattle City Council vote on whether to lower the required minimum wage for app-based delivery drivers is still in limbo after council delayed its scheduled decision. A new vote has not been scheduled as the separate council members seem to be gathering more information about the legislations potential effects. (Seattle Times)
Community
Following community feedback, Seattle Parks and Rec announced that it would not be creating a zoning system for clothing at Denny Blaine Park, a nude-friendly beach that’s historically been a popular spot for the LGBTQ+ community. Local org Friends of Denny Park also announced several improvement projects for the area.

Hey cu-teas — national boba tea shop Bober Tea is opening a new location in Capitol Hill at 605 Broadway E. The shop, which has already painted its storefront bright pink, is known for its wide variety of specialty drinks and chewy mochinuts. An exact opening date has not been made available. The renovated Bitter Lake Play Area is now open for kiddos to romp around on. The new playground includes ziplining, slides, and climbing equipment as well as other ADA accessible features. Other additions include updated restrooms and new lighting on the tennis courts.

41.4 million. That’s the number of visits folks made to Washington State Parks in 2023. Deception Pass was the most popular with 3.4 million visits, with Lake Sammamish (2.1 million) and Spokane River Centennial Trail State Park (1.6 million) trailing behind it in second + third places.
