Development
  • After nine years and multiple delays, the Intercontinental Bellevue at the Avenue is almost done. Its 208-room hotel opens next week with its butler service, bar, spa, and restaurant Fresco. Rooms start at $427 per night, with the presidential suite running a heftier price tag of $6,428 per night. (Puget Sound Business Journal)
Community
  • After May’s cyberattack, Seattle Public Library has restored its public Wi-Fi. Internet access, scanning, and faxing abilities are all up for use again, with free printing slated to be restored shortly. Other services like online library card issuing and physical item self-checkout are expected to return later this month.
Coming Soon(ish)
  • Pioneer Square’s Il Terrazzo Carmine is expanding to a second location in downtown Seattle. The Italian restaurant will open sometime next summer in the US Bank Center’s Cedar Hall lobby, which boasts a retail area and 7,500-sqft restaurant space. (Puget Sound Business Journal)
Sports
  • Mount Vernon High School grad Xavier Neyens will be one of eight joining the High School Home Run Derby for the MLB All-Star Week. The slugger was named Washington Baseball Player of the Year by Gatorade in June, with expectations to be a top prospect post-high school. (KING 5)
Closing
  • Wallingford’s Taco Time is closing its doors after 50 years of business. The restaurant at 2212 N. 45th St., which is one of Taco Time’s longest running locations, shuts down on Monday, July 15. For fans of the Mexican-adjacent fare, a Taco Time at 2853 NW Market St. in Ballard is still operating. (KING 5)
Biz
  • Seattle-based chain MOD Pizza sold to Bellevue-based Elite Restaurant Group on Wednesday. The sale comes after MOD Pizza shuttered over 20 locations and was reportedly prepping for bankruptcy. Currently, the biz has ~500 locations nationwide. (KING 5 + Bloomberg)
Real Estate
  • First Hill multifamily property Zindorf Apartments has hit the market for an asking price of $11 million. The 74-unit property is also offered as a long-term covered land play, allowing redevelopment of the site into a high-rise or future sale to a developer. (The Registry)

  • Did you feel that? Just after 8 a.m. yesterday morning, parts of Western Washington received shake alerts. These tremors were the aftermath of a 6.4 magnitude earthquake that hit off the coast of Vancouver Island. (KING 5)

    Bloomberg Green Festival brings climate action to Seattle Center

    The first-ever Bloomberg Green Festival has officially set up camp this week at the Seattle Center with a whole host of speakers, comedians, workshops, dining options, and more.

    The purpose? To show people where and how to start effecting change for the good of the planet.

    It has a star-studded speaker lineup featuring names like Stacey Abrams, Sue Bird, and Quannah ChasingHorse, along with live performances by musicians and improv experts.

    Here’s a sneak peek of what’s up on the schedule:

    Friday, July 12
    • 10-11 a.m. — Private Tour: Gates Discovery Center
    • 10 a.m.-1:15 p.m. — Sound Bath Meditation with Mind Body Hum
    • 2-6 p.m. — Bloomberg Green Docs Film Festival
