Yeah, umbrellas aren’t really a thing around here. | Photo via @tek.tones
Rules of the road. Weather woes. Fashion choices (yes, a Seattle Seahawks shirt is acceptable office attire). Whether you’re an Emerald City native or a relative newcomer, there are just some things every Seattleite understands to be true.
Consider this your official list of unofficial rules of Seattle.
The unspoken rules everyone knows
“Don’t ever use an umbrella. They just get in the way.” — u/Scienceneverlies
“Pike Place Market, NOT Pike’s Market. I-5, I-90, 520, NOT ‘the 5, ‘the 90...’ etc.” — reader Ashlii D. [ed. note: Pike Place or The Market also work]
We’ve learned a thing or two from commuting
“If you’re going downhill and there is an oncoming car going uphill, you give the uphill driver the right of way.” — @kim_kalgon
“Don’t cut in the ferry line!” — @harmonysoleil
Look the part
“Wear shorts and sandals, then throw on a jacket.” — reader Sandra R.
“Flannel never ever is out of season or fashion. Ever.” — @stuffedlasercat
Hi folks — fear not if you missed me last weekend. I’m still here. I just went on another little vacation to go visit my mom and go to the last US stop on Taylor Swift’s “Eras Tour” (!!!!).
It was as much fun as people say it is online, but the best part really was just getting to share something like that with my mom. It’s a memory of us two that I’ll store in my noggin the rest of my life.
