More than 600,000 people in Western Washington lost power because of Tuesday’s “bomb cyclone” — the most in almost 20 years. Puget Sound Energy expects a majority of its customers will have power restored by noon today. (KING 5 + Seattle Times)

Seattle Public Schools (SPS) superintendent Dr. Brent Jones announced that he is reconsidering the proposal to close four elementary schools to address a $94 million budget shortfall. The change comes after continued feedback from families about the potential disruption. (KING 5)
Closing
Elysian Brewing has closed its Georgetown taproom and will end production at the facility in December. Its Capitol Hill location will absorb some of the production needs, but nothing has been said about the future of the Elysian Fields location. (Washington Beer Blog)

The Ballard Bridge will not close this weekend because of the National Nordic Museum’s annual Julefest. The Seattle Department of Transportation had originally expected the bridge’s repairs to complete by now, and so postponed remaining work to ease travel for the festival. (My Ballard)

Hanging out downtown recently? New data shows that 2.9 million people who live within 10 miles of downtown traveled there to spend time, which is the highest number of people since March 2020. (Puget Sound Business Journal)
Environment
Carkeek Park’s Pipers Creek and Venema Creek are currently seeing a record-breaking amount of chum salmon in their waters. In the past few years, only a few hundred were counted, but 2024 volunteers counted 1,779 fish swimming around. (Seattle Times)
