Heads up, outdoor lovers — Seattle Parks and Rec is branching out with a brand new park in Rainier Valley.
Named after the late city councilmember and advocate for families, Cheryl Chow Park opens Saturday, April 5 with a ribbon cutting ceremony, live entertainment, and snacks from 12 to 2 p.m.
The 1.2-acre space located on South Charleston Street was previously a plot that was land banked by Seattle Parks and Rec in the early 2010s. Now it’s a wide open green space featuring 50+ new trees, play and exercise equipment, a half basketball court, and picnic areas — with a mural soon to come.
The new park is part of the city’s plan to create new green spaces in high density parts of Seattle.
