⚽️ This poster’s a keeper

The FIFA World Cup Host City poster for Seattle features an orca tail coming out of the Elliott Bay designed using an Indigenous art style. The city's skyline sits far off in the background while a Washington State Ferry cruises into sight on the righthand side. A white illustration of Mt. Rainier crowns the orca tail, while a soccer ball flies over the tail like the whale has just kicked the ball. The entire poster is colored with a mix of varying shades of green — seafoam, lime, and forest.
Talk about a recognizable skyline. | Photo via FIFA, artwork by Shogo Ota
Get a kick out of this — Seattle’s official poster as a host city for the 2026 FIFA World Cup has been unveiled in all of its colorful glory.

The poster, designed by Camano Island artist Shogo Ota, will be used to advertise and represent Seattle’s part in hosting the World Cup internationally. This is also the first time FIFA has chosen to use local artists from each city to create the posters.

Ota’s artwork — which features several nods to the Puget Sound’s natural world, local Indigenous tribes, and city life — was chosen from 42 other submissions. His other work has been featured on everything from Sounders posters to Starbucks mugs to Fjällräven Känken backpacks.

The rest of the 2026 FIFA World Cup city posters will be released as the month goes on. You can see the artworks on FIFA’s website. Posters for all cities will be available for purchase starting Saturday, April 19.

News Notes

Opening

Get those reusable bags ready. Seattle’s first new Trader Joe’s in 13 years is opening tomorrow, April 11 at 9 a.m. in Greenwood. The 14,000-sqft store on Greenwood Avenue North will be Trader Joe’s sixth in the area. The last to open was in West Seattle in 2012. (Puget Sound Business Journal)

State

Looking at purchasing an e-bike? Starting this past week, the State of Washington is now offering $4 million in instant rebates for those looking to buy a new bike or equipment for their current zippy thing. Applications will be accepted through April 23 and funds will be doled out in $300 + $1,200 increments based on a lottery system. (KING 5)

Coming Soon

A new staff-owned “people’s restaurant” by the same brothers behind Ramen and Tacos is in the works for Fisherman’s Terminal. They’ve launched a Kickstarter to help fund Pidgin Cooperative, which would focus on ethical consumption + local ingredients while providing employees with stable income. It’s already halfway to its fundraising goal. (Eater Seattle)

Feel Good

There’s a new baby orca in our waters. Southern resident killer whale J Pod was spotted with the new calf just this week. It appears to be the child of J40, which would be the whale’s very first calf. The first year of life for an orca can be quiet dangerous, so researchers and enthusiasts are keeping their fingers crossed for a healthy childhood. (Seattle Times)

Outdoors

Just itching to frolic through those Skagit Valley tulips? You won’t have to wait much longer. The festival website has a bloom tracker that is putting the tulips at its stage 4: early tulip color, the stage right before a full bloom. Keep an eye for that to change in the next week or two. (KING 5)

Sports

Yikes — the Mariners now have a second player on the injured list. But there might still be good to come as we close out the series against the Astros. Hear from the local experts on the Seattle Mariners with Locked On’s daily, team-focused podcasts.

    Weather

Seattle may be getting rain for the next few days, but fear not — sun is in the forecast for early next week alongside some 60° temps. See what’s on the way and when with KING 5 meteorologist Rich Mariott.

Slice, anyone? Seattle’s pizza scene is bubbling with options — we’ve put together a knead-to-know list of 20+ places to grab a pie.

Pi Vegan Pizzeria, 5301 Roosevelt Way NE
This spot bills itself as the “oldest vegan pizzeria,” but we’re mostly impressed by combos like the Shroom Truffle Shuffle with mushies and truffle oil and the Green Monster Mac with mac n’ cheeze and bac’n.

Sunny Hill, 3127 NW 85th St.
Pro tip: Watch the sun set at Sunset Hill Park and then mosey on over here for a cute pizza dinner with options like the Bunker with sweet corn and shishito peppers.

    Lupo, 4303 Fremont Ave. N.
A favorite amongst our local craft beer drinkers, this pizza joint uses a tart sourdough crust to round out its robust flavors and deliciously salty cheese.

    The Wrap

Well, the universe is getting one big unappreciative *SIGH* from me. I’m heading down to Kentucky to go visit my mom for a little bit and I was so so excited for some more balmy 70° weather, but it seems that I’m bringing the PNW spring blues with me because I’m looking at potential 50° highs and rain down there. I guess I’ll pack my shorts back up.
