Seattleites really love their thinking caps, because not only is our city responsible for some neat-o inventions — like oh, I don’t know, Boeing’s lunar rover — but we’ve also contributed quite a bit to the culinary world.
No, we’re not talking about the Seattle Dog(although it totally counts), but our state is responsible for all sorts of yummy treats — even produce.
Here are a few snacks we’ve blessed the world with.
Cosmic Crisp apples
We’re quite the farming geniuses over here. The beautiful, vibrant red apples were another WSU contribution that took decades of cross-breeding. What we know as the Cosmic Crisp apple is a mix of the Honeycrisp and Enterprise varieties.
Dutch babies
Based on the German pancake, this brunch staple was created by Manca’s Cafe in 1905, where they were typically served with lemon wedges and some powdered sugar (yum).

Pitch a Friend: Seattle (Ages 21-40) | 7-11 p.m. | Old Stove Brewing Co - Gardens | $14 | Have a single friend who needs help? Folks get three minutes to pitch their buddy’s best qualities to the crowd in hopes of scoring them a date.

April Clown Lab | 10 a.m.-1 p.m. | Seattle Open Arts Place | $25+ | If someone’s ever told you to quit clowning around, this is your sign to clown a little harder instead with this workshop that includes lessons on games, improv, and various techniques.
Tuesday, April 22
Rain: A Tribute To the Beatles | 7:30 p.m. | Paramount Theatre | $39.50+ | All you need is love — and a ticket to this tribute concert.
Wednesday, April 23
Candlelight Spring: The Best of Joe Hisaishi | 6:15 p.m. | Town Hall | $38+ | It’ll be hard not to feel like you’ve been transported straight into a Studio Ghibli film of your own when this string quartet plays their soundtracks live by candlelight.
The 103-year-old Fairfax Bridge — which provides the sole public access to Mount Rainier National Park’s Mowich Lake Entrance — is closed until further notice due to signs of deterioration. WSDOT said there is no funding currently available to replace the bridge. (KOMO News)
Closing
The 120-year-old Virginia Inn will close permanently on Sunday, April 27 due to failed lease negotiations. A spokesperson for the Pike Place Marked and Development Authority said they hope to find new management to reopen the space, which opened in 1903 — four years before Pike Place Market opened. (Eater Seattle)

Get ready for some new faces on the court. The Seattle Storm selected Dominique Malonga with the No. 2 overall pick in the WNBA Draft this week. She helped the French women’s basketball team win a silver Olympic medal last summer.. (KOMO News)
Announced
It just got a little easier to go to a Kraken game. The hockey team recently reduced ticket prices throughout the arena + cut costs for 80% of season ticket holders. Under the new prices, a seat in the Lower Bowl’s section 4 will now cost $140, compared to $175. (KING 5)
Coming Soon
PCC Corner Market, a small format grocery store, will open at Rainier Tower in Downtown Seattle this summer. The shop will offer grab-and-go items, prepared and fresh foods. (FOX 13 Seattle)

The cruise season has officially begun, and with some new changes, including a new cruise line and more efforts to reduce emissions. KING 5 reporter Savannah Welch has more on the story.
