So... Seattle Kraken Head Coach Dan Blysma was let go after just a year with the team. No replacement has been named as of yet, but listen to what the local experts on the Kraken say what we can expect from this shake-up with Locked On’s daily, team-focused podcasts.

Traffic

You probably thought it might never happen, but Pike Place Market is officially testing out banning most vehicles from using its interior street. Starting yesterday, only emergency vehicles, commercial deliveries, drivers with disabled permits, and folks using curbside pick-up are be allowed in. Enforcement will run 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. (Seattle Times)

Watch

It’s time, Seahawks fans. The NFL Draft starts tonight in Green Bay at 5 p.m. We’ll get the 18th pick and five of the first 92 — which ties us for the most picks since 1977. Follow along as the event progresses with KING 5 Sports Reporter Chris Egan.

Coming Soon

Fancy a pint? The highly popular butcher/restaurant Beast & Cleaver is expanding with a new English-style pub inside Ballard Pizza Company’s old space on Ballard Avenue. Little Beast will be part production facility during the week, but will serve classic English fare like meat pies, sticky toffee puddings, and sausage rolls Thursday-Sunday. Look for an opening date this summer. (Eater Seattle)

Closing

Another major restaurant bites the dust — the owner of Queen Anne’s Eden Hill Maximillien Perry announced that he will be closing the restaurant in September after 10 years of service. Perry received three James Beard nominations during the restaurant’s run, but will now close it for what he says is a variety of reasons. (Eater Seattle)
You’ll probably hear folks talking about a 40-foot gray whale that washed ashore in Long Beach on the Olympic Peninsula this week. Biologists are currently working to figure out what killed the creature, but likely won’t have lab results for a couple of weeks. The whale had begun decomposing before it washed onshore. (KING 5)

Sports

Your young female athletes might have a new school sport to play next year: flag football. Once the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA) ratifies the sport on August 1, Washington will become the 15th state to have done so in the US. This is also the first time in a century the WIAA has sanctioned a new sport. (My Northwest)

Things to sip while reading SEAtoday

For richer or pour over, Seattle’s sensational coffee shops are what keep us going in the morning. Our city helped create cafe culture more than 50 years ago — thanks to a certain coffee giant — and we’ve been sipping right along ever since.

But if you’re having trouble deciding on a spot, gather some brews clues with our guide to some of the best coffee shops in Seattle.

    Espresso yourself

Santo Coffee, Ravenna | As a roasting business, this spot pays quite a bit of attention to how it prepares its brews for guests — those cortados are practically whispering sweet nothings in our ear. The Panela latte with unrefined cane sugar and orange bitters is also calling our name.

    Specialty drinks

Grumpy Bean, Various locations | This biz, which has been keeping downtown workers from getting too crabby for years now, partners with brands like Aditi Chai to create a whole host of yummy drinks. We’ve got our eye on that churro latte, for sure.

    Roasts to boast

Fulcrum Cafe, Belltown | It’s rare for a roaster to be led by a fifth-generation coffee farmer — but that’s part of what makes Fulcrum’s beans stand out.

    The Wrap

Hello from Louisville! I’ve been down south the last week and a half to visit my mom again. But this trip also had the added bonus of an opportunity to reconnect with some family and childhood friends I hadn’t seen in years. I’ve also got a new little cousin who is “probably even a bigger Taylor Swift fan” than me.
