Travel

We can already taste the gelato — Alaska Airlines will soon start service on Seattle’s first nonstop flight to Italy. The flights, which begin in May 2026, will travel to Rome on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. This is Alaska Airlines’ third widebody, international flight. (KING 5)

Edu

Seattle’s Cornish College of Arts is now officially a part of Seattle University — a move made to help consolidate administrative + student operation costs. Previously a nonprofit, Cornish will keep its name but add a “at Seattle University” to the end of it. Seattle University has received Cornish’s assets and rehired ~75% of the college’s staff. (Seattle Times)

Civic

Seattle City Councilmember Cathy Moore, who represents parts of North Seattle, announced that she will resign from her role on July 7 due to health reasons. City Council will have 20 days to fill her vacancy, but will begin the process immediately. (Puget Sound Business Journal)

Development

New affordable housing is on its way to Kirkland. San Francisco-based developer Bridge Housing purchased Vue Kirkland for $55.2 million ($22 million coming from a loan from Amazon) with the intention of converting the space into affordable housing units. No timeline was given for the conversion and no permitting has been filed. (Puget Sound Business Journal)

Eat

Say hello to Canlis’ new chef. James Huffman is the restaurant’s first-ever chef to hail directly from Seattle itself. Huffman has spent the past nine years in Canlis’ kitchen, but also has experience at Kirkland’s Cafe Juanita and the Purple Cafe and Wine Bar. Canlis said that 72 candidates were considered for the role. (Seattle Times)

Have you seen the Mariners’ new Pride ball? It made its debut during last night’s first pitch, and will now travel to different ball parks during Pride Month before becoming a permanent part of T-Mobile Park. Check it out with KING 5 sports reporter Arielle Orsuto.

I hope some of you got to see the aurora borealis this week. I had another failed attempt. A friend and I drove up to Anacortes Sunday night where we waited for a few hours. But alas, it apparently only showed by the time we got back to Seattle.
