Raise those curtains. On Saturday, Sept. 30, Bainbridge Island will open its newly renovated Buxton Center for Bainbridge Performing Arts, named after late benefactor and local arts icon Frank Buxton.

The 31-year-old building has an additional 5,000-sqft, two-story glass walls at the entryway, and wider seats to allow for more legroom — ahhhh. Other key upgrades include:

  • An expanded lobby to accommodate larger events and a new concession area
  • A multi-purpose studio available for classes, rehearsals, and short-run performances
  • A redesigned auditorium with improved sightlines + accessibility (there’s a new elevator to the second level)
  • Environmentally friendly features like rooftop solar panels

The very first ticketed event for the shiny new digs is a show from the Edge Improv troupe on Saturday, Oct. 7. You can also watch “The Prom” musical beginning Thursday, Oct. 12 and a free mariachi + folklorico performance on Monday, Oct. 30.
