UW in the Sugar Bowl: Talking trash with our Texas counterparts

What should we send the ATXtoday folks if we lose?

UW Huskies players celebrate the 2023 Pac-12 Championship win by hoisting a trophy and being showered with confetti

We’ll never get tired of seeing UW players hoist trophies like they did at the 2023 Pac-12 Championship.

Mirror, mirror, on the wall — which football team is the sweetest of them all?

The UW Huskies will face the Texas Longhorns at the 2024 Allstate Sugar Bowl in New Orleans on Jan. 1. What a way to ring in the New Year.

It’s a College Football Playoff contest, so the stakes are high — the winner will move to the National Championship Game the following Monday, Jan. 8.

This will be the first time UW has been in the playoff since the 2016 season. Even though Texas is favored to win, the Huskies are on a hot streak. They won the Pac-12 Championship — and have the longest active winning streak in college football.

But we know Longhorns fans are going to bring it. In fact, we’re buddies with a couple of passionate ones over at ATXtoday, which is why we made a friendly wager…

The City Editors of the losing team must send goodies from a local business to the editors of the winning team.

Readers, this is where you come in: we need to vote on what we should send them if we lose (don’t worry, we won’t). Give us your suggestions.

City Editor Gabe here. “The Huskies are a team of destiny, led by the feel-good story of Heisman finalist Michael Penix Jr. Plus, do Texas fans remember the Alamo Bowl last year — or was that forgotten already?”

Here’s what ATXtoday City Editor Laura Figi has to say about Texas: “Even though I didn’t go to UT, I’m manifesting a win, which goes to show how pervasive that burnt orange spirit is. The Longhorns were 12-1 in the regular season and QB Quinn Ewers is an early contender for a 2024 Hesiman trophy (if he doesn’t leave for the NFL). I think the team is going into this game with confidence.”

For all the super fans out there, tickets for the game are ~$485 on the resale market.
