Small Business Saturday is coming up on Nov. 25. What started as an American Express campaign in 2010 to inspire consumers to shop locally has become an annual holiday that’s celebrated nationally.
We asked you to tell us which local small businesses you love shopping with + any deals you’re excited for, and (as usual) you didn’t disappoint. Plus, we included some of the local deals and shops we love.
Editors’ Picks
Gabe | Chinatown-International District $6 Food Walk | I plan to munch on special bites from the likes of Gan Bei and Hood Famous, while perusing discounted kits at International Model Toys.
Alina | Swan Dive | In addition to its usual super cute vintage selection, this shop is also hosting a pop-up for jewelry store Virago gallery on Saturday. They’ll be pouring wine for guests and dishing out 15% coupons to those that sign up for both of their newsletters.
You all love shopping small. Check out where else you said you’ll be shopping on Nov. 25.

Happy Thanksgiving. However you celebrate, we hope you enjoy a day of rest, reflection, and community. We here at SEAtoday are thankful for our city, and the fact that there’s always plenty to talk about.
Sports
Baseball’s hot stove is heating up. Yesterday, the Mariners traded third-baseman Eugenio Suarez to the Arizona Diamondbacks for catcher Seby Zavala and right-handed pitcher Carlos Vargas. Suarez was a popular player who helped coin the team motto “Good Vibes Only.”
Transit
All aboard — seriously. According to the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT), ~300,000 travelers will be using the ferry system over Thanksgiving weekend. WSDOT advises folks to plan extra time and watch the website for any last-minute changes.
Outdoors
Seattle Parks and Recreation is hosting a public feedback forum for the new Carkeek Park play area on Saturday, Dec. 2. The project seeks to make accessibility improvements to the pathway and possibly hire an artist to repaint the Salmon Slide.
Development
In potentially good news for developers, construction costs in Seattle seem to have flattened out. The Mortensen Cost Index — a key measurement of construction finances — showed only a five-point jump this year, below the nine-point increase from 2021-22 and the 37-point rise from 2020-21. Eat
Mmm, mmm, mmm. Green bean casserole was listed as the top Thanksgiving side dish in Washington based on Google search trend data. If you’re baking up your own version, hit up Pike Place Market or a local vendor like Lee’s Produce for ingredients. (USA Today)
