Some of the best coffee shops in Seattle
Sometimes you just need two cups of coffee. | Photo by SEAtoday Staff at Mr. West
It’s no secret that Seattleites love to use winter and its shortened, rainy days as an excuse to stay inside where it’s cozy and warm.
And as big fans of the concept of hygge, we’d thought we’d pour out a nice big list of local coffee shops that are sure to make getting out of the house in all of this gloominess worth it.
Go enjoy those holiday flavors.
Specialty drinks
Cloud City Coffee, Maple Leaf | We all like a solid seasonal sipper — try out winter drinks like the ChaiNog or the Cranberry Matcha Latte.
Dote, Bellevue | In addition to offering its own roasted beans, one of the company’s owners is a chocolatier who’s created a series of ganaches that are blended into the shop’s drinks. Talk about decadence.
What you can’t get from this picture is just how amazing this chocolate espresso bundt cake from Little Jaye tasted.

Best bites
Little Jaye, South Park | Flavors from smokehouse Lady Jaye have been set loose upon a bakery menu that includes treats like biscuits, rice krispy treats, and cakes. They’re all complimented by excellent brews from Stamp Act Coffee.
Roasts to boast
Santo Coffee Co., Roosevelt | This chic shop has created a simple menu that’s intended to put most of the focus on its carefully balanced roast blends.
Expect the great next American novel to be written from that couch.

Where to write your novel
Gemini Room, Capitol Hill | If you’re looking for a mood-setting atmosphere, this space leans heavily into those retro 70s vibes, without the odd wooden paneling or water beds.
Mr. West, Various locations | As they say, write drunk, edit sober. This menu shifts throughout the day from yummy breakfast items and coffees to a selection of more robust sandwiches and wines in the evening hours.
Events and pop-ups
Black Coffee Northwest, Various locations | In addition to brewing a great cup of joe, this local biz also offers youth programs that teach kids about how to run a business. It also regularly hosts makers markets and festivals — and will soon have a cafe in the Central District.

A major Woodinville development project is taking a back seat for a bit. Green Partners LLC said it’s reevaluating plans to build a 19-acre Gardens District due to factors like rising construction costs. Longtime garden store Molbak’s — originally a key part of the project — claimed it was forced out. (Puget Sound Business Journal)

Environment
The atmospheric river that’s currently pelting Western Washington is causing flooding issues, but has also helped replenish local reservoir levels. Currently, the reservoir sits at ~78 percent of normal, and officials hope to see that increase soon. Seattleites should still try to conserve water.
Community
Seattle Parks and Rec is looking for community feedback on a proposal to build a new kids play area at Denny Blaine Park, a historically LGBTQ + nudist-friendly beach. Parks and Rec will host a meeting today, Dec. 6, 5:30-6:30 p.m. at the Martin Luther King FAME Community Center.

Hope you’ve saved up, Huskies fans. Traveling to go see UW in the Sugar Bowl on Jan. 1 will be pricey, since hotel rooms and plane tickets to New Orleans are at a premium that holiday week. Even with layovers, the cheapest flights are ~$500 round trip. (Seattle Times)

I guess I’m a little embarrassed to say that I’m more of an energy drink girlie rather than a coffee one. But, I will never get over the root beer float coffee drink that Mr. West used to have on the menu. It was divine.
