UW in the Sugar Bowl: Talking trash with our Texas counterparts

UW Huskies players celebrate the 2023 Pac-12 Championship win by hoisting a trophy and being showered with confetti

Mirror, mirror, on the wall — which football team is the sweetest of them all?

The UW Huskies will face the Texas Longhorns at the 2024 Allstate Sugar Bowl in New Orleans on Jan. 1. What a way to ring in the New Year.

It’s a College Football Playoff contest, so the stakes are high — the winner will move to the National Championship Game the following Monday, Jan. 8.

This will be the first time UW has been in the playoff since the 2016 season. Even though Texas is favored to win, the Huskies are hot. They won the Pac-12 Championship — and have the longest active winning streak in college football.

Let’s hear those howls, UW fans.

But we know Longhorns fans are going to bring it. In fact, we’re buddies with a couple of passionate ones over at ATXtoday, which is why we made a friendly wager…

The City Editors of the losing team must send goodies from a local business to the editors of the winning team.

Readers, this is where you come in: help us decide what to send them if we lose (don’t worry, we won’t). Give us your suggestions.

📣 Talking trash

City Editor Gabe here. “The Huskies are a team of destiny, led by the feel-good story of Heisman finalist Michael Penix Jr. Plus, do Texas fans remember the Alamo Bowl last year — or was that forgotten already?”

Here’s what ATXtoday City Editor Laura Figi has to say about Texas: “Even though I didn’t go to UT, I’m manifesting a win, which goes to show how pervasive that burnt orange spirit is. The Longhorns were 12-1 in the regular season and QB Quinn Ewers is an early contender for a 2024 Hesiman trophy (if he doesn’t leave for the NFL). I think the team is going into this game with confidence.”

For all the super fans out there, tickets for the game are ~$485 on the resale market.

Hot Homes: 6 pads with breathtaking mountain views

The mountains are calling and we must go — and settle down, too. | Photos via Windermere + RE/MAX
Water vistas are great when you’re looking for a home in the Seattle area, but being able to see the Cascades, Olympics, or Mount Rainier on a regular basis is a major amenity.

We’ve compiled a few recent listings where the mountain views are top notch.

Modern Bainbridge Island getaway, 10039 NE South Beach Dr. | $4,400,000 | 5 BR, 5 BA | There’s a patio for gazing out thoughtfully in the distance, but just about every room has a killer view.

Panoramic Bellevue penthouse, 3110 W. Lake Sammamish Pkwy | $1,700,000 | 1 BR, 3 BA | Live the high life in two units sold as one — enjoy double the private decks and more windows to check out the lovely landscape.

Lakefront Sammamish palace, 4245 206th Ave. SE | $6,500,000 | 4 BR, 5 BA | We’re already fantasizing about relaxing in the hot tub with a little bubbly and nothing but nature as far as the eye can see.

From the editor
I adore my colleagues at ATXtoday, but let’s be real — Seattle has Austin beat in many ways. We’ve got a city full of smarties, hot dogs slathered in cream cheese, and majestic whales literally swimming in our waters.

What, you’ve got Matthew McConaughey as your unofficial UT mascot? Well, George Clooney thinks UW is so awesome he made a movie about it. Beat that.
