All we’re saying is that boat days are really good for your mental health — especially when paired with one of the Electric Boat Company’s charcuterie boards. | Photo by @maria.treen
When it comes to birthday parties, there’s just no good reason why kids should have all of the fun.

Birthday dinners and cocktails could get the job done, but we’re adults — who’s going to say “no” if we want to spend our birthday smashing stuff or taking some wheels to the rink? Nobody, that’s who.

Don’t skimp on the pinatas and goodie bags this year (or ever again). Life just gets harder, so why not celebrate a little harder, too?

Here are a few adult birthday party ideas that will delight your inner child:

Electric Boat Company | Prices start at $99/hour
Bring your friends for a lake cruise with a charcuterie board and wine — the boats are heated for when it’s cold + you have water access for when it’s warm.

Rage Industry | $33-$38/person
Nothing says “happy birthday” like releasing your inner demons on some unsuspecting glassware and (unplugged) electrical appliances. If anything, it just helps get the stress out so you can spend the rest of your day in peace.

Southgate Roller Rink | $372 for 15 people
Go all out with bell bottoms, glitter, and your grooviest vibes — then chow down on four pizzas, ice cream, and a selection of Jones soda. There’s also a bar if you want to add some boozin’ to your cruisin’. Just be careful on those skates.

Topgolf | Inquire for pricing
Nosh on a chef-curated menu before slamming some golf balls into the abyss. Make a rule that no one else can score better than you because it’s your birthday — you’re not self-centered, it’s called setting boundaries.

Woodland Park Zoo | $850 for 20 people
If you really want to invest in your childlike wonder, these party packages come with carousel rides, zoo admission for 20 people, and a private celebration space. Plus, there are add-on options for animal encounters, face painting, caricatures, and unlimited carousel rides.

    We’re just egg-ing you on

Otherworldly sculpture + soundscape exhibit opens at National Nordic Museum in Seattle

A still from the claymation film "A Pancake Moon" show a clay egg speaking with a rather skinny looking bipedal wolf.
In “A Pancake Moon,” a claymation film directed by artist Nathalie Djurberg, an egg seeks out answers to some of life’s greatest mysteries, only to find trouble along the way. | Video still courtesy of National Nordic Museum
The whimsical and mysterious exhibit titled “A Place of Oppportunity and Transformation” debuts at the National Nordic Museum this week.

Attendees will enter through large-scale immersive installations like “The Stone Garden” to explore human fantasies, fears, secrets, and truths through music, stop-motion, and... well, little egg guys (we truly don’t know how else to put it).

Swedish artist Nathalie Djurberg uses these egg-centric ovoid shapes to represent a sort of human rebirth, following them through journeys of further self-discovery with a fairytale-like lens highly akin to the subconscious mind. Accompanying music composed by longtime collaborator Hans Berg enhances the transcendent experience.

Attendees will be able explore entrancing spaces + get up close and personal with these odd, yet endearing creatures Saturday, Aug. 3-Sunday, Oct. 27.

Access to the temporary exhibit is included in the purchase of a general admission ticket.

    From the editor
I’ve been literally waiting to use this beautifully edited (by me) head shot for a full year.

    Why?

Because, today’s my birthday! *cue the air horn*

I’m spending it with some really good friends of mine — like Madeline — eating good food, swimming, and wearing sparkly shoes. As a Leo, I need nothing else.
