This week, Northwest Film Forum (NWFF) is hosting its 27th annual Local Sightings Film Festival, an in-person and virtual showcase of creators from the PNW.
From Friday, Sept. 20, to Sunday, Sept. 29, the festival will be screening 50+ locally-made films, hosting workshops, and facilitating special presentations. Passes are priced on a sliding scale of $90-$150 for non-members, but you can also buy tickets to individual screenings and activities.
Opening Feature: “Punderneath it All” | Friday, Sept. 20 | 7 p.m. | Stop in for a live, movie-themed pun-off before the screening, hosted by Seattle’s own Forest Ember and a gaggle of other comedians.
Moving History: Forum Vault Flashback | Sunday, Sept. 22 | 4 p.m. | Take a trip down memory lane with this collab between NWFF and local nonprofit MIPoPS, featuring rare screenings of the Safdie Brothers + cute cameos by the Forum’s fabled early-2000s staff.
“Seattle of the Future?” Closing Shorts | Saturday, Sept. 28 | 7 p.m. | A trio of films showcase Seattle’s gentrifying physical landscape, and local filmmakers are asking the million-dollar question: How do we provide an antidote to “placelessness” with intentional, grassroots community spaces?
Looking for year-round ways to plug into Seattle’s film scene? Consider a NWFF membership — perks include discounted tickets, workshops + venue rentals at NWFF, local biz deals, and invitations to free, members-only events.
Pro tip: You can also gift a membership to your fellow film buff.

Bellevue’s highly anticipated La Mar Cocina Peruana is opening its doors on Monday, Oct. 14 — celebrity chef Gastón Acurio’s first PNW restaurant. The menu offers Peruvian-style ceviches, sushi, empanadas, steaks, and more. (Puget Sound Business Journal)
Real Estate
Sylva on Main in downtown Bellevue recently sold for $30 million to Canada-based Rise Properties Trust. Rise buys underperforming properties in the Seattle and Portland metros, upgrading them for better returns. Average rent for Sylva’s 74 units is below the market average at $2,430. Community
The Museum of Flight received a $300,000 grant from Wells Fargo Foundation for its Museums for All program. This program helps the museum offer free or low-cost admissions + membership for those facing financial barriers. Psssssst — did you know you can get in for free with you SPL card?
Kids
Starting this month, The Victor Tavern is offering a free kid’s meal on Tuesdays. Purchase of an adult meal qualifies dine-in quests for the free meal (for kids aged 12 and under). Stop by either of the Seattle’s Eastlake or South Lake Union locations to cash in on the deal.
Sports
The Seattle Seahawks and the Miami Dolphins will have an extensive reunion this Sunday, Sept. 22 with Jordyn Brooks, Jerome Baker, and Connor Williams all facing off with their former team. The local experts are breaking it down on Locked On’s daily, Seahwaks-focused podcast.
Eat
That’s a whole lotta fried food. The Washington State Fair wraps up this weekend, and we’re not wasting any time. See what KING 5 TV anchor Chris Egan is taste testing (and maybe jot a few of them down to try for yourself).

Not only is the NWFF’s Local Sightings Film Festival happening this weekend, but SIFF Cinema Uptown is also screening “Omni Loop” — a sci-fi film that has been on my radar ever since the official trailer dropped a month ago.
Featuring “The Bear” star Ayo Edebiri, “Omni Loop” tackles teamwork, self-discovery, and a “Groundhog Day"-esque disruption in the space-time continuum — what could go wrong?
