Time to cast those votes

Got those bubble-filling pens ready to go? It’s almost time to use them.

Washington residents will start seeing General Election ballots in their mailboxes as early as the end of this week, with packets being distributed Friday, Oct. 18.

This go-around, there are several propositions and 100+ positions on the ballot. But don’t worry, you won’t have to make decisions on each and every one — just the ones in your jurisdiction.

Here are the big races to note:

Ballot measures

Seattle’s Transportation Levy is up for renewal, which will fund projects like sidewalk repairs, bike lane creation, and transit improvements. If approved, the levy would be in place for eight years and is expected to raise ~$1.5 billion over that time frame.

Voters in certain King County school districts will also find school-related construction bond approval requests + levies.

As for statewide measures, expect a few questions about taxes and what they’re used for.

Candidates

Whew — there are a lot of choices to be made in this section. Apart from the presidential election (ever heard of it?), other notable races include:
  • U.S. Senator
  • U.S. House of Representatives
  • Governor
  • State Representatives
  • State Supreme Court Justices
  • Seattle Citywide Council Position
Made your choices? Make sure to mail back your ballot by Tuesday, Nov. 5 + drop it off at one of several boxes around town, or visit a voting center if you need more assistance.

Sister farm to the valley’s popular Tulip Town, Skagit Acres will bring three more acres of colorful blooms to the mix. The tulips will be nestled among the farm’s other 25 acres of land, equipped with a beer + wine garden, food trucks, capacity for live music, a greenhouse, and nursery.

Big news — Madeline and I are both now officially in love. Not with each other, but with Ghost Note’s Oatnog lattes. And if you try to argue with us that it’s “certainly too soon for eggnog” you can fight us both. And be careful, we’re both pretty scrappy. Scram!
