Chinatown-International District’s Lunar New Year Celebration

Saturday, Feb. 22
The Year of the Snake is about to begin — celebrate with lion dances, a food walk, martial arts demonstrations, family-friendly activities, and lots of vendors.

Emerald City Comic Con

Thursday, March 6-Sunday, March 9
If you find yourself roaming downtown on this weekend, you might notice quite the cast of characters wandering around. No need to wonder — it’s the Emerald City Comic Con. Pop in for guest appearances from the “Baldur’s Gate 3" voice actors, cosplaying panels, and video game competitions.

Taste Washington

Thursday, March 13-Sunday, March 16
Once you’ve had a taste of Seattle’s cocktails, it’s time to give your taste buds a whirl of Washington wines. Cruise your way through a variety of the state’s best vinos during a variety of events.

We’re just over a year out from the 2026 World Cup, and Washington is gearing up for it with the announcement of 11 fan zones across the state for those who want to take part in the historic event. These zones will include live entertainment, activations, and food/beverage options. (KING 5)

Civic

Monday, Jan. 20 is Martin Luther King Jr. Day, a day where we honor the life and legacy of Dr. King’s work. Seattleites can participate by joining the Northwest African American Museum’s King Day event that includes a resource expo, family activities, storytelling, and more.

Closing

One of Seattle’s most well-loved vegan restaurants just closed. Plum Bistro’s owner/chef Makini Howell announced her decision to close the restaurant + its sibling Plum Chopped in order to focus on her new tofu company, Makini’s. Missing that mac and yease? Active

A former NFL star quarterback is bringing some big dill energy with the first Seattle location of his pickleball company Picklr. The sports venue will move into Theo Chocolate’s former 26,500-sqft Fremont warehouse and likely house several pickleball courts for games, lessons, and tournaments. Other details have not been confirmed. (Puget Sound Business Journal)

If you’re looking for a new snuggle buddy, there are 39 dogs and 18 cats that were just brought into the Seattle Humane society from Los Angeles shelters after the wildfire. Check the humane’s society website for their full list of adoptable animals — those from LA will have a special badge. (KING 5)
In case you didn’t hear, the Blue Angels were in town on Monday in advance of our annual SeaFair festival. While in town, the team met with festival execs to work through some planning. A few aerial theatrical moves were initially planned for their arrival, but... we had a cloud cover. (My Northwest)

Traffic

The bus feeling extra crowded these days? Seattle’s car ownership rate has hit a record low, according to 2023 Census data. Of Seattle’s households, 20% do not own or lease a car, which is the first time we’ve seen that number since the US Census Bureau started keeping track of vehicle ownership. (Seattle Times)
