M’s cap? Check. Vintage Randy Johnson jersey? Check. Crazy loud cheer? Checccck. After beginning the season on the road, the Mariners have their home opener Friday night against the Houston Astros — and we are super pumped.
Before we get into the #SEAUsRise vibe, though, let’s catch up with what’s new at T-Mobile Park this year and in the near future — think beyond peanuts and Cracker Jacks.
Opening acts 🎉
Oh hey there, old friend. M’s legend Ichiro Suzuki will throw out the first pitch on Friday after the pre-game ceremonies (which start at 6 p.m. — catch an early Light Rail to beat the crowds since the gates open at 4:40 p.m.). It’s also the 75th anniversary of when Jackie Robinson made his debut as the first Black player in MLB — everyone across the league will wear No. 42 in his honor.
Rookie snacks 🌭
The lineup of concessions this year has added some stellar newcomers, including:
- Marination near Section 119 brings the famed Seattle chain’s Kalua pork sliders, SPAM musubi, and other Hawaiian-Korean dishes to the park.
- Catch by Just Poké around Section 132 on the Main Level has seasoned, sustainably caught ahi + salmon bowls over sushi rice.
- Fuku is star chef David Chang’s fast-casual fried chicken franchise that serves spicy, buttermilk-battered sandwiches in the T-Mobile ‘Pen.
Play ball ⚾
Get your food — and hold onto your seat. After barely missing the playoffs last season, expectations are high for this squad, which added 2021 Cy Young Award-winner Robbie Ray to the rotation and All-Star outfield Jesse Winker. Also, be sure to drop everything when phenom Julio Rodríguez is at the plate. He could be Seattle’s most exciting player.
Fancy perks (coming soon) 🥂
Isn’t this luxurious? Yesterday, the Mariners announced major new amenities coming to the ballpark in anticipation of hosting the 2023 All-Star Game. The $55 million upgrades include a premium seating area called the Press Club, with PNW wines, cocktails + food from guest chefs. The project should be completed by the 2023 season’s start.
