Seattle is going to be straight out of popcorn this week. We’ve got not one, not two, but three film festivals happening. 🍿

Seattle’s always been a pretty artsy city, so it checks out that’d we would embrace films all the way. But now with the Seattle-based “KIMI” doing so well in reviews, and there’s new legislation in the works that would hopefully increase the movie-related moo-lah the state sees, this may just be the beginning of our big screen debut. Move over Hollywood.

Anyway, here are more details about those film festivals + one coming down the pipeline in April.

📽️ Children’s Film Festival | Now through Sun., Feb. 20 | $90+ for a pass, $7+ per movie

The largest film fest for children and their families curates high-quality films from around the world with specific attention to current issues and aims to “inspire young people to participate as agents of change”.

Some highlights:

📽️ Four Portraits: Films by African American Women Directors | Now through Thurs., Feb. 24 | Northwest Film Forum | $7+ per movie

The four-part cinematic series shares the stories of four Black American women who navigate the world through broadly different experiences

Some highlights:

  • Love + Basketball” | Wed., Feb. 23 | 7 p.m. | An aspiring basketball player must navigate the challenges of the pro women’s sports world.
  • Eve’s Bayou” | Thurs., Feb. 24 | 7 p.m. | A child navigates the complexities of adulthood.

📽️ Noir City Seattle | Now through Thurs., Feb. 17 | SIFF Cinema Egyptian | $15 per movie, $150 for a pass

This festival’s flicks are pulled from Eddie Muller’s recently re-published book “Dark City: The Lost World of Film Noir,” which takes a look at great noir movies and their cultural significance.

And plan ahead for the:

📽️ Seattle International Film Festival | Thurs., April 14-Sun., April 24 | SIFF Theaters + other venues around the city

This hybrid online + in-person experience will showcase top international + independent films from around the globe. Tickets go on sale March 3 and a full lineup will be released March 30.
