Seattle 2022-23 performing arts season preview

Table of Contents

Pull out those theater spectacles and grab your finest duds — the 2022-23 performing arts season is about to be in full swing.

While there have been a few big shows so far this summer (hello, “Hamilton”), the stage lights will really start heating up over the next couple of months, as groups like the Pacific Northwest Ballet and the Seattle Opera come off a short break and roll out their 2022-23 lineup.

Here’s what our local groups have to offer. Some are right around the corner, but it’s always good to grab those tickets ASAP — even for the shows further out.

🩰 For lovers of dance

“Giselle” | Pacific Northwest Ballet | Fri., Feb. 3-Sun., Feb. 12, 2023 | Whether you’re in the mood for a ghost story or a romance, this classic piece is one of ballet’s most ethereal works.

A Midsummer Night’s Dream” | Pacific Northwest Ballet | Fri., April 14-Sun., April 23, 2023 | This whimsical piece is inspired by one of William Shakespeare’s most memorable comedies.

📖 For the kiddos (or the young at heart)

The Boy Who Kissed the Sky” | Seattle Children’s Theatre | Tues., Oct. 11-Sun., Nov. 6 | Set in our own Central District, this children’s tale is inspired by the early life of Seattle-native Jimi Hendrix — so you can expect to rock out, too.

Into the Woods” | 5th Avenue Theatre | Fri., Feb. 10-Sun., March 5, 2023 | This musical is the ultimate fairytale crossover — Little Red Riding Hood, Cinderella, a witch + a baker all stumble into each other’s stories.

Lydia and the Troll” | Seattle Rep | Thurs., May 5-Sat., June 4 | A mysterious stranger invites a young Seattleite into a world of fantasy + folklore based here in our own wondrous landscape — including the famed Fremont landmark.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix in Concert | Seattle Symphony | Fri., July 14-Sun., July 16, 2023 | The wizarding world feels even more magical when accompanied by a live symphony.

🎶 Music diehards

The Elixir of Love” | Seattle Opera | Fri., Aug. 12-Sat., Aug. 20 | Ease into the operatic season with a light-hearted rom-com set in the 1940s.

Tales of 1,001 Nights” | Seattle Symphony | Thurs., Nov. 17-Sat., Nov. 19 | In an effort to save her life, a woman weaves 1,001 tales for her rather murderous new husband.

A Thousand Splendid Suns | Seattle Opera | Sat., Feb. 25-Sat., March 11, 2023 | Inspired by the best-selling novel by Khaled Hosseini, this performance follows two Afghan women navigating a volatile political landscape.

🎭 Oh, the drama

“Carmina Burana” | Pacific Northwest Ballet | Fri., Sept. 23-Sun., Oct. 2 | Talk about intensity — this ballet depicts the stages of life to music that has a soaring, epic feel.

Les Misérables” | 5th Avenue Theatre | Wed., May 24-Sat., June 17, 2023 | This classic will pull you through an entire range of emotions before the final curtain closes — bring tissues.
