Welcome to the team, Mike Macdonald.

After a few weeks of interviews and fan speculation, the Seahawks have named the Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator as Seattle’s next head coach.

Macdonald became the NFL’s youngest defensive coordinator in 2022 and led the Ravens’ stout defense over the past two seaosns. In 2023, Baltimore topped the league in fewest points allowed, most sacks, and most takeaways — the first team in NFL history to lead in all three categories. The Ravens also made the AFC Championship game this year, but lost to the Kansas City Chiefs.

“We are super excited to be here,” said Macdonald. “Just getting to know John and the rest of the folks, the reputation of this place, what drew us here was the people. That’s why we’re here, to bring a championship back to Seattle and the 12s.”

Macdonald will be taking over for Pete Carroll, who agreed to step into an adviser role for the Seahawks on January 10. Macdonald’s contract is reportedly for six years.

In addition to talks with the Seahawks, Macdonald also reportedly interviewed with the Carolina Panthers, Atlanta Falcons, Tennessee Titans, Los Angeles Chargers, and the Washington Commanders during the offseason.
