Seattle named top Labor Day weekend destination by AAA

If you’re planning on traveling into or out of Seattle during Labor Day weekend, prepare for a lot of road and airport traffic — especially with Sea-Tac airport’s web systems still down.

The cultural end of summer is upon us, and this Labor Day weekend is expected to be one of Seattle’s busiest ever.

Not only is the Transportation Security Administration projecting this weekend to be the busiest Labor Day travel period on record, but AAA has also named Seattle as the top destination for travelers this year (thank the cruise ships).

Sea-Tac Airport is also still experiencing issues with its web systems after a cyberattack last weekend.

Here are some travel tips for those braving the roads + airports this weekend:

  • Sea-Tac recommends anyone flying Frontier, Spirit, Sun Country, or JetBlue to arrive three hours before departure + pre-print or download their mobile boarding passes at home.
  • Avoid traffic jams by using the Washington State Department of Transportation’s weekend travel times charts.
  • Show up early if you plan to travel using Washington State Ferries or Amtrak.
