Big changes are underway at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA).
Through Upgrade SEA, a multi-year capital improvement campaign, the airport is evolving to meet the needs of today’s travelers — just in time for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where Seattle will serve as one of several host cities.
The goal? To ensure SEA is “upgrading to welcome the world.” With several major projects already underway, here’s what travelers can look forward to.
C Concourse Expansion (CCE)
As part of an additional facility at C Concourse, this expansion brings more than 200,000 sqft of new space to the terminal. Inside, passengers will find:
- 13 new dining and retail spaces
- A central marketplace called Marketplace at C
- An architectural showpiece known as Tree at C
- Lookout at C, a platform with expansive airfield views
- Amenities including a sensory room, an interfaith prayer and meditation room, and a live performance area
Sustainability is also a major focus, with innovative features setting the precedent for future capital projects at the Port. Think: Fossil fuel-free systems, low-flow water fixtures, and electrochromic window glazing.
SEA Gateway Project
Curb appeal, anyone?
In partnership with Alaska Airlines, this project is transforming the airport’s “front door.” Highlights include:
- A brighter, more efficient Alaska check-in area
- An upgraded Checkpoint 6 with increased capacity and a post-security recompose zone
- A refreshed baggage claim level featuring new lighting and curated artwork
Roadway Improvements Project
Outside the terminal, this project is focused on streamlining airport access with two additional lanes and dedicated routes for the parking garage and courtesy vehicles.

Looking ahead
While construction is still in progress, many of these major projects are aiming to wrap up before summer 2026.
