Here’s something that may hit close to home.
Washington has the largest and fastest-growing population of Ukrainians and Ukrainian-Americans out of any other state — you or your neighbors may be directly affected by the Russian invasion of the country, now in its 19th day.
Washington State Governor Jay Inslee and Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell have both taken measures support the people of Ukraine in recent days — but if you’re looking for a way to personally support those impacted, here are some suggestions.
Donate or volunteer
- Ukrainian Association of Washington State (UAWS)
This org works to preserve Ukrainian heritage in the state, and is now focused onrounding up medical supplies, tactical equipment, clothing, and monetary donations to support those in the field. Anyone interested in volunteering can fill out a form here. - Lutheran Community Services Northwest
This refugee services organization is currently assisting evacuees from Afghanistan, but expects to see a huge influx of Ukrainians looking to resettle in the state soon. The org does everything from picking up arriving refugees from the airport to assisting families find healthcare, jobs, and housing. You can donate money here, scout their list of requested items, or sign up to volunteer here.
