You know, pups get a lot of love in this town — but what about something for our feline friends?
Introducing Sea-Meow Con: a convention dedicated just to our pretty kitties.
The two-day event, dubbed the “biggest cat convention in the Pawcific Northwest,” is taking place Saturday, Aug. 12-Sunday, Aug. 13 at the Seattle Center Exhibition Hall. With bingo, a cat rapper, a costume contest, tons of vendors selling treats and gifts to take home, and more feline fun, this con is sure to be the cat’s pajamas.
Here are some of our favorite activities on the schedule:
Moshow Cat Rapper | Saturday, Aug. 12 | 12:30-1 p.m. | This performer went viral for his catchy songs featuring his whole clan of hiss-terical kitties.
Cat Cosplay Contest | Saturday, Aug. 12 | 5-5:50 p.m. | Wear your best cat-themed outfit or go all out and dress up as an actual kitty.
Cat Calling Contest | Sunday, Aug. 13 | 12:50-1:20 p.m. | Give us your best pspspspsps.
Best of CatVideoFest | Sunday, Aug. 13 | 5-5:30 p.m. | You’ll laugh, you’ll say “awww,” and most importantly, you’ll find that your love for the little tiger at home is burning even brighter after watching these cat videos.
What’s a cat convention without some op-purr-tuna-ties to do some snuggling?

The bright burst of a freshly picked blueberry in your mouth, the excitement of seeing the first heirloom tomato of the season, a warm loaf of bread nestled into your tote bag... just thinking about our favorite local farmers market fills us with pride.
It’s time to turn that appreciation into a vote — so that the entire nation can know that Seattle has the best farmers markets around.
The 2023 America’s Farmers Market Celebration (AFMC) is open to votes through Monday, Sept. 18 to find a “People’s Choice” farmers market as the top-endorsed market in the country. The prize? Up to $15,000 for the top five markets to spend on marketing, communication, and other needs.
The most popular market in each state also wins $100 — so get voting.

Last week, we asked if you believed in aliens. Here’s what you said:

Related to our Burien UFO Fest article, an overwhelming 72% of you said “yes” — aliens are still out there. Another 23% said their verdict is still out, while only 4% were a steadfast “no.” In a separate question, 55% believe extra terrestrials have already visited us. Better watch out for any tractor beams.
Ugh, I so wish I could bring my kitty to the Sea-Meow Con, but she’s just a little too nervous in new spaces — and she’s exceptionally vocal about that. We already have a lot of chats at home (part of the reason behind her name “Mama Bird”), so when things are wrong, she spares no set of ears. But hey, communication is always important in relationships.
Believe it or not, I had not just dropped big news on Mama Bird.
