Where to cheer on UW in the national championship game

Got the pre-game jitters yet? UW takes on Michigan in college football’s national championship Monday, Jan. 8 at 4:30 p.m. — and the city is amped up.

Sure, you can watch the game at home on ESPN as you squeeze a stress ball. But major Seattle sports moments like this don’t come around often — so it’ll be a lot more fun to join locals howling for the Dawgs.

Grab your purple gear, brush up on the talking points, and check out one of these watch parties.

Good Brewing Barrel House, 18204 Bothell Everett Hwy, Bothell | The $15 cover to check out the game at this UW alum hangout includes two drink tickets, apps, and opportunities to win prizes with each Huskies touchdown.

Ladd & Lass, 722 NE 45th St. | Enjoy happy hour prices all day at the cozy brewery located not too far from campus.

Redhook Brewlab, 714 E. Pike St. | $25-$30 | UW is throwing its official watch party at the spacious Capitol Hill brewery with a buffet from Kobo Pizza, a DJ spinning tunes, and lots of merch. Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 at the door.

Seattle Center Armory, 305 Harrison St. | Grab a drink at a pop-up beer garden and wave those foam fingers proudly.

Northlake Tavern retained its old school decor after the Big Mario’s takeover.

Big Mario’s Northlake Pizza, 660 NE Northlake Way | One of the U District’s most venerable joints is a pizzeria now — and there will be giveaways to go along with slices.

Barking Dog Ale House, 705 NW 70th St. | There will be a special nacho bar, but fans are also allowed to bring their own snacks for a potluck.

Chuck’s Hop Shop Central District, 2001 E. Union St. | Pair beers with a build-your-own-taco station.

AMC Theaters, various locations | $20 | Why not kick back in a comfy reserve seat and see the action on a really big screen? It’ll be a blockbuster.

Brace yourself, folks. The forecast calls for chilly temperatures this week and potential snow in the region by Friday.

Here’s how to get ready in case that flaky stuff falls or we get iced out.

Road conditions

The Seattle Department of Transportation’s real-time map shows which roads and sidewalks have been plowed, when they were last treated, and what’s closed.

Public transit

Look for the latest updates before you head out the door.

Cold weather tips

Even if it doesn’t snow, temps that fall below freezing can be hazardous. Stock up on necessities in case there’s a power outage and bookmark these resources:

Last week, we wrote about where to go for zero-proof drinks during Dry January and asked for your preferences. Coffee + tea turned out to be the winner among readers. But great alternative suggestions included Black Raven‘s N/A offering and the Wildfin American Grill chain, which has a blackberry basil lemonade and the rare Mr. Pibb.
