Where to find great vegan and vegetarian eats in Seattle

A collection of bright, colorful dishes of lunch plates at Cafe Flora in Seattle, WA

Eating meat-free hasn’t always been easy, but in Seattle, it’s a piece of (vegan) cake.

Our local food scene is as vibrant as ever, so it’s no surprise there are a slew of local chefs serving up fresh, vegetarian bites across town. From fish-free sushi to decadent vegan donuts, here are 28 restaurants serving up meat-free fare in the Emerald City.

🍊 The brunch bunch

Cafe Flora, 2901 E. Madison St. | There’s a reason crowds pack this vegetarian restaurant specializing in creative items like its Kimchi black bean almond burger. Try this: the cinnamon rolls, which are an experience unto themselves.

Oak, 3019 Beacon Ave. S. | There’s nothing quite like vegan tenders + waffles, take it from us. We can also confirm that the brekkie poutine with mushroom gravy + tofu bacon is an excellent hangover cure.

🌱 100% vegan eats

El Borracho, 1521 First Ave. | Pike Place Market’s lively Mexican restaurant converted to all-vegan fare in 2021, substituting beefy tacos for items like jackfruit + Impossible meat. Even the horchata is made with sweetened rice milk.

🍕 Casual eating

Carmelo’s Tacos, Various locations | The Seattle-favorite takeaway restaurant has grilled mushroom + grilled cactus options for folks who are craving something greasy.

Pi Vegan Pizzeria, 5301 Roosevelt Way NE | Billed as the oldest vegan pizzeria in the US, the U District fave slings pies topped with items like artichokes, peppers, and faux pepperoni. Get a cookie pizza for dessert — you know you deserve it.

🧁 Delicious desserts

Dough Joy, Various locations | The food truck-turned-bakery has airy, playful offerings like Everything But the Bagel with a cream cheese center and Vanilla Biscoff. Its West Seattle outpost also has an adjacent plant shop.

Lazy Cow Bakery, 3418 Fremont Ave. N. | In addition to taking cake orders, this little Fremont shop has plenty of plant-based baked goods to choose from for folks wandering the neighborhood’s quaint shops. Pick from options like brownies, tiramisu, lemon bars, and more.

In case you missed it, Memorial Stadium is getting a makeover — and now we have a solid first look at what it may look like once the construction dust clears.

Seattle Public Schools and architect Generator Studio filed a Building & Land Use Pre-Application, and with it we got a new set of renderings giving us a better look at the stadium’s new features.

We also now know that with its press box, concession stands, restrooms, and storage areas, the project makes up ~70,000 sqft of enclosed space. Other expected features include:
  • 8,000-person projected capacity
  • Covered stands
  • Synthetic turf playing field
  • All-electric design
  • Enhanced, but preserved, Memorial Wall

From the editor
Here are some out-of-context, but very real quotes that came out of Madeline and I’s mouths today:

Alina: “Ugh, I want to be funny, but I don’t know what to say.”

Madeline: “No, but I was just scrolling through my phone thinking ‘I gotta do something for attention.’”

Alina: “So, I just treated myself to some new vitamins that I’m really excited about.”

Madeline: “I got bullied for my chapstick yesterday.”
