*Yawnnnnnnnn* — oh, goodness. Excuse us. We almost hibernated straight through our first 7 p.m. sunset.
That’s right, Daylight Saving Time begins this Sunday at 2 a.m., bringing us the first surefire sign that warmth and sunshine is slowly returning to us.
Here’s what to expect as Seattle defrosts.
It looks like we may have a bit of a chilly spring.

🌡 Temperature
According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)’s Climate Prediction Center, we have a 40-50% chanceof temperatures being lower than normal. With that in mind, March should finally be when we start to see a little more warmth, with high temps averaging ~52° and lows of ~42°. Still chilly, but definitely warmer than February.
🌧 Precipitation
We had a drier than normal winter thanks to a La Niña that decided to form late in the season. However, Seattle now has a 40-50% chance of seeing above normal rainfall amounts this spring.

Already, time to get nerdy about spring for a minute.
One of my favorite natural events of the spring is the gradual return of the Swainson’s Thrush. They’re migrational birds that head south for the winter, but they have the prettiest calls. It sounds like a flute echoing through the forest.
Anyways, I heard my first ones the other day and I am delighted.

With spring just at our fingertips, we were curious last week about what you all felt was the biggest signifier that we had officially made it out of winter’s gloom. Most of you all (70%) said that UW’s cherry blossom bloom felt the most like the start of the season, followed up by the first 60° day with 18% of the vote.
