Working out the details
Whether you’re a seasoned athlete or just starting your fitness journey, HYROX is built for all ages, faces, and paces.
What makes HYROX so addictive? It’s the ideal blend of functional strength, endurance, and mental grit, packed into a race-style format anyone can train for. Imagine being cheered on by a crowd and feeling like a champion, no matter your fitness level.
She began HYROX training at ECA “just for fun.” A few months later, she finished first in her age group at HYROX Miami, earning a podium finish and a ticket to the World Championships.
She credits her win to both the gym’s setup and the support system around her. The “Champions Room” simulates every station in a HYROX race, with coaches who guide, encourage, and push athletes at every level.
“Finding the right gym environment was crucial — and that’s where Emerald City Athletics made all the difference. It was truly the perfect training ground,” she says.
Get ready to race
ECA’s first HYROX Simulation Competition brought out a massive crowd of athletes of all levels, filling the gym with race-day energy and community support. Pro tip: The next simulation is coming up on Saturday, June 14, and all are welcome.

Happy Small Business Week, Seattle. We know small businesses are the heart of our community, so earlier this year, we asked local small businesses to tell us about themselves. They delivered.
We’ll be shining the spotlight on a few of SJ’s small businesses this month, starting with Seattle Chainstitch Massacre, a local clothing retailer that specializes in customized embroidery.
Here’s how Seattle Chainstitch Massacre would describe its business.
Tell us about yourself.
We’re a retail store specializing in customized, chainstitched pieces made from upcycled + recycled clothing and accessories. We also sell vintage, gifts and handmade items from local artists.
Pass the mic. What other small business in town should everyone know about, and why?
Friend Museum — it’s a collective of creators and sellers in Pioneer Square that supports minority businesses + small-batch artists. Doll Parts Collective in West Seattle is very similar and serves that area of the city.
When someone visits your small business for the first time, the one thing they have to do, see, or try is _____.
Get a chainstitched bandana! I can add small designs (check out our flash designs) or a name/word to any of our in-stock bandanas within about 10 minutes. They make great gifts for yourself + others.
The Buy
It’s easy to support small businesses across the globe when you shop unique + one-of-a-kind products on Etsy. One of our favorite things to browse is Etsy’s selection of custom artwork. These are five of our favorites:
I’ve just had a lovely time soaking up the sun this week. Madeline (you know, our old friend) and I even spent some time getting our dose of vitamin D in Cal Anderson Park before chowing down on some Molly Moon’s. I heavily recommend a strawberry + honey lavender combo scoop; but also try bringing a packet of table salt and sprinkling a little (and I mean a little!!!!!) on top. Life changing.
