How to ‘adopt a street’ in Seattle

It takes a village.

While Pike Street from First to Second Avenue is taken, the rest of Pike Street is wide open for takers.

We’ve all passed those Adopt a Street signs on the road urging folks to beautify a block, but we bet you didn’t realize how easy it was to have a little road of your own. ❤️

Here’s how to get started

  1. Pick a street. Maybe it’s somewhere that’s close to you, maybe it’s somewhere sentimental, maybe it’s just a spot that... needs some help. You can see what’s already taken on Seattle Public Utility’s website.
  2. Fill out a form. It’s short and should take you just a few minutes. The most complicated question is what you want to name your area.
  3. Figure out if you’ll need some supplies. Seattle Public Utilities will give you whatever you need — gloves, waste bags, litter grabbers, or a container for sharp objects — for free. Just fill out another little form.
  4. Get to cleaning. Work on your schedule, just report when you’ve been out there and request a litter pick-up.
