“We are all interconnected with the winged creatures that share our world,” said Melissa Kennedy, Burke Museum director of interpretation. “In acknowledging our role and impact, we can contribute to a thriving ecosystem for all creatures.”

Featuring original art, Burke Museum collections, and interactive experiences, “Rare Air: Connecting with Species of Flight” tells the stories of rare + endangered flying species.

Immersing visitors in the world of bats, bees, birds, and butterflies, this all-ages exhibit illustrates the role that people play in the environment and offers strategies — big and small — to slow or reverse the threats to these winged creatures.

Based on wildlife illustrator Sarah Kaizar’s book “RARE AIR: Endangered Birds, Bats, Butterflies & Bees,” the expanded exhibition includes newly commissioned pieces of local species and stories about the projects, research, and actions we can take to protect these animals.

Tickets to the exhibition are now on sale — catch it at the Burke Museum of Natural History and Culture now through March 31, 2025.
