The exhibition presents America’s history across several themes: land and place; objects as histories of trade, migration + exploration; and the multiplicity of American identities.

The Seattle Art Museum’s newest exhibition seeks to answer one question: What is American art?

The result of extensive community collaboration, “American Art: The Stories We Carry” brings the museum’s historical American collection into conversation with Native, Asian American, African American, and Latinx art; plus new acquisitions and commissions to spark curiosity, critique, and connection.

See the exhibition (and everything else SAM has to offer) during regular museum hours — Wednesdays-Sundays, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. 🖼️
