Beloved KOMO 4 meteorologist Steve Pool has died at the age of 70 from early-onset Alzheimer’s disease.

Pool worked for the TV station for 40 years where he was one of the first Black weather forecasters in the US, won several Emmys for his work, and became a much-admired local celebrity.

His career began with KOMO in 1974 where he was hired directly out of UW in 1977. He started in sports before moving to hard news and finally became KOMO’s chief weatherman in 1984.

Pool also served as a fill-in on ABC’s “Good Morning America” and hosted KOMO’s Miracle Network for Children’s Hospital. He retired in 2019.

“I’d say 99.9% of the things I was able to do here was so far, so hugely more than I ever dreamed in my wildest dreams,” Pool said on his last show. “Really, to be able to do this business and to be able to be successful with it, I’m really proud of that.”
