Space Needle plans going back to Astronaut White paint job

So long, Galaxy Gold

Remember this Space Needle look? It’s coming back.

Orange you glad the Space Needle is going back to its usual self? Or have you gotten used to the pumpkin-like color by now?

Seattle’s famed landmark will remove the Galaxy Gold paint job at the top — completed for its 60th anniversary last year — and revert to Astronaut White. The new/old look will come back sometime in May when the top charity fundraisers from “Base 2 Space” help paint the first strokes.

If it’s true that “nothing gold can stay” we’ll still have the brief-but-enjoyable moments of the Space Needle’s carrot top — and a handy way to date photos, just like in 2012 when the building had its 50th anniversary paint. There were Reddit jokes, meme opportunities, and even fountain ink inspiration. Siri — play Barbra Streisand’s “Memories” on repeat.

But love it or hate it, you have to admit — the Space Needle got us talking about color in a city that’s perpetually gray. Nice job.
