We have the need for beads now that Mardi Gras is on the horizon. Famously known as a major cultural event in New Orleans , “Fat Tuesday” is a celebration of indulgence on the eve of Lent , featuring fabulous food + flying jewelry.

Don’t sweat it if you can’t make it down to the bayou, though. You can celebrate right here in Seattle.

  • Island Soul Rum Bar & Soul Shack | It’s a party every night at this Columbia City hot spot, but there’s a special menu on Tuesday, Feb. 13, with crawfish Monica and jambalaya.
  • Where Ya At, Matt | The food truck is baking up King Cakes — grab a slice through Fat Tuesday.
  • The Royal Room | The South Hudson Music Project takes the stage at this jazz venue Tuesday for an evening of festive tunes.
  • Ivar’s Salmon House | Enjoy a Cajun + Creole buffet, drink specials, live music, and prizes at Seattle’s longtime seafood staple.

Gabe is based in Seattle (originally from New Jersey), and has previously been a food writer at Eater, a sports reporter, and a YA graphic novelist. You’ll probably find him scouting out the latest restaurant in town on the weekends, or strolling around the streets of White Center with his feisty pup, Armando.
